How a Manager can Improve Performance Reviews
Performance reviews are crucial because how the juniors have done are a reflection of how well the manager has done. So, as a manager you need to, through various ways, ensure that those under you are doing so well that they get glowing reviews.
Clear goals and expectations – You to give the employees a clear idea of what is expected of them. Clarity will help them perform better in all tasks as they will know exactly what the end goal is. They want to know what is the future and what meaningful and useful contributions they can make as they too have a stake in it.
Share information and numbers – Do not be hesitant, let them in on what is going on within the company as well as how their jobs contribute to it. This way they feel a greater sense of worth because they are being considered important enough to know all these details. Thus, knowing that they are valued, they will perform better.
Delegation – As a manager you may have second or even third thoughts about delegating important work, but you need to let go. Delegation is a good thing because it will not only extend your span of control but is also an excellent opportunity for those under you to grow. Delegation demonstrates the fact that you trust them to do the job well. Over time, they will not just improve but flourish.
Incentives – Of course, incentives are one of the most tried and tested ways to improve the performance of employees. However, it needs to be ensured that these are given based on objective criteria so that no one feels cheated.
Independent problem-solving – Do not be the one always to solve problems because this way your employees will become over-reliant on you and their engagement will decrease over time. Encourage your juniors to take responsibility, and address their issues and problem on their own.
Constant feedback – Do not wait to praise someone. We are quick to criticize someone so, apply the same when it comes to praise too. When an employee does something well, give the positive feedback as soon as possible. When people know what they’re doing well, they’ll keep doing it or even do better. Recognizing their achievements goes a long way in boosting morale.
